Iranian authorities arrest two Kurds in Mahabad

Amid the continued arrest of Kurds, two more individuals from Mahabad have been detained by Iranian government forces and transferred to undisclosed locations.
According to information received by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, Hoyar Zahabi, a 21-year-old resident of Mahabad, was violently arrested during a raid by government forces on his grandmother’s home in the early hours of Saturday, March 21, 2026. Informed sources stated that the arrest was carried out without a warrant.
Zahabi had previously been arrested by security forces during the Women, Life, Freedom movement and has a prior record of political prosecution.
At the same time, another man, Jalal Alavi, from the village of Kuseh-Kahriz, a rural district of Mahabad, was also arrested by government forces. The agents raided his home without presenting court warrant or informing him of any charges.
Despite ongoing efforts by the families of both individuals, no information is available regarding the reasons for their arrests, the charges against them, or their current whereabouts.
