Hengaw – Wednesday, May 6, 2026

Peshawa Aghapour, a 22-year-old Kurdish man from Bukan and a former detainee of the “Woman, Life, Freedom” movement who was rearrested two months ago, has been abruptly transferred from Urmia Central Prison to a detention facility operated by Iran’s Intelligence Ministry.

According to information obtained by Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, Aghapour was transferred from Urmia Central Prison to the Intelligence Ministry detention center in Urmia four days ago. During the past two months of detention, he has been allowed only one brief phone call with his family.

Sources told Hengaw that his renewed transfer to a security detention center has heightened concerns over the possibility of a new case being opened against him and the risk of torture or renewed interrogations.

Aghapour was arrested on Thursday, March 5, 2026, during a violent raid by government forces on his family home.

He was severely beaten during the arrest, and his father also sustained broken ribs after being assaulted by security forces.

Pishwa Aghapour had previously been arrested on November 5, 2022, during the “Woman, Life, Freedom” uprising after being summoned to the Intelligence Office in Bukan, where he was subjected to torture.
