Former university professor Dr. Ahmad Rahimi and his wife Sohila Hosseini arrested in Mashhad

Dr. Ahmad Rahimi, a former university professor, and his wife, artist Sohila Hosseini, have been arrested by Iranian government forces in Mashhad and transferred to an undisclosed location.
According to information received by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, government forces raided their private residence and detained both individuals using violence on Wednesday, March 17, 2026.
Dr. Ahmad Rahimi, a former computer science professor at Montazeri University of Mashhad, had previously taught at Ferdowsi University of Mashhad and Shandiz Institute of Higher Education. During the Women, Life, Freedom movement in 2022, he resigned from his position in protest against the crackdown.
Sohila Hosseini is an artist active in painting and editing.
