Former political prisoner Ehsan Ghadiri detained in Tehran

Iranian government forces have detained former political prisoner Ehsan Ghadiri in Tehran, using violence during his arrest, .

According to information obtained by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, Ghadiri was arrested on April 2, 2026, at a checkpoint on Fadaiyan-e Eslam Street in the capital.

A source familiar with the case said government forces beat Ghadiri during the arrest and confiscated his personal belongings, including his mobile phone and identification documents.

He was transferred to Ward 6 of Great Tehran Penitentiary, where he has been held for several days without access to phone calls or family visits.

Authorities have not disclosed the reasons for his arrest or any charges against him, and judicial officials have not responded to inquiries, raising concerns among his family.

Ghadiri had previously been detained over his civil and political activities and was released from Evin Prison in September 2024 after serving a one-year sentence.
