Iranian authorities have executed a prisoner previously sentenced to death for the killing of an anti-narcotics police officer in Alborz province.

According to information obtained by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, the execution was carried out in recent days at a prison in Alborz province.

The prisoner had been convicted in the killing of Mohammadmehdi Vakili, an officer with the anti-narcotics police unit in Chaharbagh county.

A legal deputy of Iran’s Law Enforcement Command told ISNA, an Iranian state-affiliated media outlet, that Vakili was killed on March 1, 2023, during a confrontation related to narcotics enforcement operations.

The defendant was sentenced to death in November 2023 by Branch 2 of Criminal Court No. 1 in Alborz province. The sentence was later upheld by Iran’s Supreme Court and subsequently carried out.

Iranian official media had not disclosed the prisoner’s identity, age, place of detention or the specific prison where the execution took place.
