Lawyer Bahar Sahraeian detained during legal duties in Shiraz
Hengaw – Sunday, May 17, 2026
Iranian authorities detained Bahar Sahraeian, a lawyer and member of the Fars Bar Association from Shiraz, and transferred her to Adelabad Prison in the city.
According to information received by Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, Sahraeian was detained on Saturday, May 16, 2026, while carrying out her professional legal duties at the Revolutionary Court complex in Shiraz. She was subsequently transferred to the women’s ward of Adelabad Prison.
Hengaw has learned that Sahraeian was taken to the prosecutor’s office on Sunday, May 17, where she was formally charged with “assembly and collusion with intent to act against national security,” “propaganda against the state,” and “spreading falsehoods.”
Judicial authorities in Shiraz immediately issued a detention order following the charges and transferred her to Adelabad Prison.
Bahar Sahraeian had previously faced arrest and judicial prosecution due to her professional activities and legal defense of political and civil cases.
Hengaw Organization for Human Rights considers the detention and prosecution of lawyers for carrying out their professional duties a serious violation of the right to independent legal defense and part of a broader effort to pressure and intimidate lawyers and human rights defenders in Iran.
Hengaw has expressed concern over the judicial process in this case and called for the immediate and unconditional release of Bahar Sahraeian.
