Hengaw – Thursday, May 28, 2026

Meysam Veisi and his brother Mojtaba Veisi, two prominent Kurdish activists, followers of the Yarsan faith, and founders of the Kurdish library in the Dareh Deraz neighborhood of Kermanshah (Kermashan), were killed after Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) forces surrounded their safe house in a village in Dalahu County and opened direct fire on the residence. Another civilian who owned the house remains missing, and his fate is still unknown.

According to reports received by Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, IRGC forces launched a large-scale siege on the brothers’ safe house in the village of Qaleh Kahush in Dalahu County, Kermanshah Province, at approximately 4:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 28, 2026. Armed forces opened fire on the residential building from four directions without prior warning, killing both brothers at the scene.

Reports further indicate that the fate of another individual present at the residence, identified as Farshad Hatamipour, has remained unknown since the attack. No information has been released regarding his condition, whereabouts, or possible detention by security forces, while his family remains in complete uncertainty.

Meysam and Mojtaba Veisi were widely known cultural and community figures in Kermanshah and followers of the Yarsan faith. They were among the founders of the Kurdish library in Dareh Deraz (Mahdieh Township) and played a central role in organizing Kurdish Newroz celebrations in the area. In addition to his civil and cultural activities, Mojtaba Veisi was also a prominent wrestler who had won several provincial titles in Kermanshah.

The two brothers had previously faced repeated pressure and repression because of their cultural, identity-based, and religious activities. Mojtaba Veisi was violently arrested on March 5, 2025, while helping organize Newroz celebrations at Shirin Park in Kermanshah. After spending 18 days in solitary confinement and being transferred to Dizel Abad Prison, he was temporarily released on bail set at 700 million tomans on March 29, 2025.

Meysam Veisi had also previously faced arrest and judicial prosecution during protests in the Yarsan-populated neighborhood of Dareh Drezh in previous years. Following the January protests, the two brothers reportedly came under intensified pressure and pursuit by Iranian security agencies and were forced into hiding because of threats against their lives.

The targeted killing and direct armed assault on the safe house of civil activists reflects a long-standing pattern associated with the Islamic Republic of Iran’s policy of systematic field assassinations and violent suppression of dissidents and ethnic activists in Kurdistan.

Hengaw Organization for Human Rights strongly condemns the killing of Meysam and Mojtaba Veisi by IRGC forces and considers the attack a clear example of extrajudicial execution and a crime against humanity. Hengaw holds the IRGC command in Kermanshah Province directly responsible for the deaths of the two brothers and, while expressing deep concern over the fate of Farshad Hatamipour, calls for an immediate response from the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights and Mai Sato, the UN Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in Iran.
