Hengaw – Tuesday, May 5, 2026

Ebrahim Mardani, a 48-year-old Kurdish man from Bukan, has remained in legal limbo for nearly five months following his arrest and is currently held in the city’s central prison. Reports indicate that the Intelligence Department has been obstructing his temporary release on bail.

Based on information received by Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, Mardani continues to be held at Bukan Central Prison without legal resolution nearly five months after his arrest. Despite repeated follow-ups by his family, security bodies have opposed his release until the completion of judicial proceedings.

Mardani was arrested on the evening of Tuesday, December 16, 2025, when intelligence forces raided his family home using violence and without presenting any warrant.

He had previously been arrested on May 3, 2025, after guests at his child’s wedding wore traditional Kurdish attire, including “Jamaneh” and earth-toned Kurdish clothing. In that case, he, along with 57 others, was sentenced by the Piranshahr Revolutionary Court to three months of discretionary imprisonment, commuted from a fine of 24 million tomans.
