Hengaw – Thursday, May 14, 2026

Maryam Nouri, one of the detainees from the protests earlier this year whose husband was killed during the demonstrations, remains in legal limbo nearly four months after her arrest in Mashhad. She is currently being held in the “Aramesh Ward” of Mashhad Central Prison, also known as Vakilabad Prison.

According to information received by Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, Nouri was arrested on Wednesday, January 14, 2026, during the protests in Mashhad. Her detention came days after her husband, Ashkan Torabzadeh, was fatally shot by government forces on January 9 while inside his personal vehicle.

Informed sources stated that Nouri has been denied due process throughout the past 120 days, while her case remains unresolved. The continued pressure on families of those killed during the protests, including arrests and judicial harassment, constitutes a clear form of psychological pressure aimed at suppressing demands for justice and accountability.

The precise charges against Maryam Nouri and the authority responsible for her arrest have not been officially disclosed. Judicial authorities in Mashhad have also refused to grant her temporary release on bail.
