Hengaw – Wednesday, June 17, 2026

The Iranian Judiciary has sentenced Milad Esmaeilvandi, a Lor man from Izeh and one of the detainees arrested during the January protests, to two years in prison and additional punishments. The sentence was upheld in full by the Khuzestan Province Court of Appeals.

Information received by Hengaw Organization for Human Rights shows that Branch 16 of the Khuzestan Province Court of Appeals upheld the two-year prison sentence issued against Esmaeilvandi, who is currently imprisoned in Sheiban Prison in Ahvaz.

A ruling served on his lawyer, Hossein Ali Hatami, states that Esmaeilvandi was sentenced to two years in prison on charges of "disrupting public order." As additional punishments, he was also handed a two-year ban on leaving the country and ordered to report to the Office for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice for one year.

The sentence was originally issued by Branch 1 of the Ahvaz Revolutionary Court. Esmaeilvandi was arrested during the protests on January 18, 2026, and was subsequently transferred to Sheiban Prison in Ahvaz.
