Protest detainee Shaqayeq Makvandi sentenced to two years in prison in Izeh

Shaqayeq Makvandi, a Lor woman from Izeh in Khuzestan Province and one of those arrested during the January protests, has been sentenced by the Iranian judiciary to two years and one day in prison.

According to information obtained by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, Branch 1 of the Revolutionary Court of Izeh recently sentenced Makvandi to two years and one day of discretionary imprisonment on charges of “disrupting public order.”

Following the issuance of the preliminary verdict, her lawyer, Hossein Ali Hatami, formally appealed the ruling and requested a review of the case before a higher court.

Makvandi was arrested by Iranian government forces in Izeh on Thursday, January 8, 2026, during protests. After spending approximately three months in detention and undergoing interrogation, she was temporarily released from prison on April 8, 2026, after posting bail set at 1 billion tomans.

Her case is currently pending review in the appeals process.
