Hengaw – Friday, June 5, 2026
Mohammad Hosseini Chamani, Rostam Shahpari Talkhabi and Iman Shahparinia, three prisoners currently held in Sheyban Prison in Ahvaz and among those arrested during the January 2026 protests, have had their prison sentences upheld by the Iranian judiciary.
According to information obtained by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, Branch 14 of the Khuzestan Province Court of Appeals has upheld the two-year prison sentences and supplementary punishments imposed on Rostam Shahpari Talkhabi and Iman Shahparinia, both of whom were arrested during the January protests.
The two men had previously been convicted by Branch 1 of the Revolutionary Court of Ahvaz in a joint case on charges of “disrupting public order.” Each was sentenced to two years in prison, a two-year ban on leaving the country, and one year of mandatory participation in activities organized by the Headquarters for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice.
Rostam Shahpari Talkhabi and Iman Shahparinia were arrested on January 9, 2026, during the protests and were subsequently transferred to Sheyban Prison in Ahvaz.
In a separate case, political prisoner Mohammad Hosseini Chamani, who is also held in Sheyban Prison, was sentenced by Branch 18 of the Khuzestan Province Court of Appeals to 15 months and one day in prison on charges of “disrupting public order” and an additional 15 months and one day on charges of “insulting Khamenei,” resulting in a total sentence of two years, six months and two days.
Hosseini Chamani had initially been sentenced by Branch 1 of the Revolutionary Court of Ahvaz to four years in prison along with supplementary punishments. However, the Court of Appeals reduced the sentence to two years, six months and two days and removed the additional penalties, which included a two-year travel ban and one year of mandatory participation in activities organized by the Headquarters for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice.
He was arrested on January 8, 2026, and remains imprisoned in Sheyban Prison.
