Two Gilak prisoners executed at Rasht Central Prison

Iranian authorities have executed two Gilak prisoners, Shahin (Mohammadreza) Tafteh and Mohammad Asghari, at Rasht Central Prison (Lakan Prison). Both men had previously been sentenced to death on charges of “premeditated murder.”
According to information received by Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, the executions were carried out in the early hours of Wednesday, May 20, 2026, at Rasht Central Prison.
Tafteh, 32, was from Astaneh-ye Ashrafiyeh and was the father of one child. He had been convicted in connection with a fatal street altercation approximately six years ago and was subsequently sentenced to qisas (retribution-in-kind).
Asghari, 28, was from Rasht. He had been arrested around four years ago in a separate case and was executed alongside Tafteh.
Neither Iranian authorities nor media outlets affiliated with the judiciary had reported the executions at the time of publication.
