Hanieh Sarborzi faces baghi charge after 40 days in detention

Hanieh Sarborzi, a 30-year-old resident of Mashhad and mother of a young child, has been detained for 40 days in connection with the January protests and is currently being held in Vakilabad Prison. Concerns over her fate have grown after authorities charged her with “baghi” (armed rebellion against the state).
According to information received by Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, Sarborzi was arrested on May 15, 2026, and transferred to Ward 6 of Vakilabad Prison in Mashhad.
She was detained in connection with the January protests and has been charged with “baghi,” a serious offense that has heightened concerns about her fate.
Sarborzi has so far been denied her most basic rights, including family visits and telephone contact with her relatives.
