Arab poet Amin Askaravi sentenced to two years in prison

The Iranian judiciary has sentenced Amin Askaravi (Aschravi), a 23-year-old Arab poet from Shadgan (Fallahiyeh) in Khuzestan Province, to two years in prison.

According to information received by Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, the sentence was formally communicated to Askaravi on Wednesday, June 24, 2026. A member of the cultural group Amjad, he was convicted on charges of "propaganda against the state" and "acting against national security."

Askaravi was arrested by Intelligence Department forces in Shadgan in March 2026. He spent several months in a security detention facility, where he was subjected to intensive interrogations and physical and psychological torture. He was later released on temporary bail after posting a substantial bond, pending the conclusion of judicial proceedings.
