Zeinab Hezbapour (also known as Hezbeh), the wife of Arab political prisoner Massoud Jamee (Bavi), who is on death row, has been arrested to begin serving a 15-year prison sentence.

According to information received by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, Hezbapour was recently taken into custody and transferred to Sepidar Prison in Ahvaz.

Hezbapour and her daughter, Nahid Jamee, 26, were previously sentenced by the Iranian judiciary to 15 years and 12 years in prison, respectively, on charges of “membership in insurgent groups.”

Two other members of the family—Delal Jamee, 22, and Roghayeh Jamee, 18—have also been tried by the Bavi Revolutionary Court on charges of links to “anti-government groups,” including the Mojahedin-e Khalq Organization (MEK). No information has been made public regarding their sentences.

Massoud Jamee, 49, has spent 864 days in detention. He was convicted by Branch 1 of the Ahvaz Revolutionary Court on charges including “corruption on earth,” “membership in the MEK,” “assembly and collusion to overthrow the government,” and “propaganda against the state.” He was sentenced to two death penalties and one year of discretionary imprisonment, a ruling that has been fully upheld by Iran’s Supreme Court.

Jamee was arrested on August 1, 2023, by agents of the Ahvaz Intelligence Department and transferred to Sheyban Prison.

According to informed sources, he has been subjected to physical and psychological torture during his detention. Despite suffering from stomach cancer, liver disease, high blood pressure, and internal infections, he has been denied adequate medical treatment.
