Amirhossein Samar Ansari sentenced to prison and additional restrictions

Amirhossein Samar Ansari, arrested during the January 2026 protests, has been sentenced by the Iranian judiciary to one year in prison and additional punitive restrictions.

According to information obtained by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, 45-year-old Samar Ansari  was sentenced by Branch 26 of the Tehran Revolutionary Court, presided over by Judge Iman Afshari, to one year of imprisonment on charges of “propaganda against the state.”

In addition to the prison sentence, he was handed a supplementary punishment of a two-year ban on membership in political parties and social or political organizations.

Announcing the verdict on his Instagram account, Samar Ansari stated that he spent approximately two months in Great Tehran Penitentiary (Fashafouyeh), 15 days in solitary confinement in Evin Prison, and a further 19 days in detention suites within the prison complex during his period of detention.

He was arrested on January 5, 2026, during the protests. After spending nearly three months in custody, he was released from prison on bail pending the completion of judicial proceedings.
