The prison sentence of Mohammadayin Moayyed Mohseni, a 19-year-old detained during the January 2026 protests, has been reduced to two years by Branch 21 of the Tehran Province Court of Appeals. He was previously sentenced to five years' imprisonment by a lower court.

According to a report received by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, Branch 21 of the Tehran Province Court of Appeals convicted Moayyed Mohseni of "assembly and collusion against national security" and reduced his sentence to two years' imprisonment.

According to Reza Salehiyeh, a lawyer and human rights activist, the sole basis for the charge was Moayyed Mohseni's printing of several small protest leaflets using an ordinary home printer, which the Iranian judiciary treated as a threat to national security.

The judicial proceedings advanced with unusual speed. Two days after his arrest, on January 5, 2026, Branch 2 of the Tehran Public and Revolutionary Prosecutor's Office issued an indictment against him. He was later tried by Branch 29 of the Tehran Revolutionary Court, presided over by Judge Seyed Ali Mazloum, which sentenced him to five years' imprisonment before the Court of Appeals reduced the sentence to two years.

Moayyed Mohseni was arrested by security forces at the age of 18 during protests in Tehran's Haft Hoz Square on January 3, 2026. After more than two months in detention and interrogation, he was granted temporary release on bail in late March 2026 from Greater Tehran Penitentiary (Fashafouyeh Prison), pending the conclusion of judicial proceedings.
