Kurdish journalist Shiva Zarei fined by Iranian judiciary

An Iranian court has sentenced Kurdish journalist and civil activist Shiva Zarei, from Qasr-e Shirin in Kermanshah Province, to pay a fine of 50 million tomans.

According to information received by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, Branch 1 of the Public and Revolutionary Prosecutor's Office in Buin Zahra, Qazvin Province, convicted Zarei on February 10, 2026, on the charge of "propaganda against the state" and sentenced her to pay the fine. Zarei, who is originally from Qasr-e Shirin, resides in Buin Zahra.

Iranian authorities also confiscated the journalist's mobile phone.

The case against Zarei was based on critical content she shared on her Instagram Stories.
