Former boxing champion Afshin Albandi dies in Isfahan Prison after medical neglect

Afshin Albandi, a prisoner held in Isfahan Prison and a former boxing champion, has died after being denied adequate medical care amid poor prison health and sanitation conditions.

According to information received by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, Albandi, a non-political prisoner and a Lor Bakhtiari man, died in Isfahan Prison on Saturday, July 18, 2026. He was a former national boxing champion.

Sources told Hengaw that his condition deteriorated due to inadequate medical care, poor sanitary conditions inside the prison, and delays in receiving necessary treatment, ultimately resulting in his death.

Afshin Albandi was a former boxing champion who had won national gold and silver medals, as well as the Gold Cup at a European boxing tournament.
