8 Kurdish Civil and Environmental Activists Arrested by Iranian Security Forces in Kermanshah Province

At least eight Kurdish civil and environmental activists from Gilan-e Gharb city in Kermanshah province, including Maria Khani, Jahangir Azadi, Lotfollah Parviz, Hamidreza Rahimian, Salman Parhan, Mohammad Parveen, Ali Farajkhani, and Mustafa Rostami, were arrested by IRGC intelligence forces and taken to an unknown location.

According to a report received by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, in the early morning hours of Tuesday, August 13, 2024, IRGC intelligence forces raided the homes of these activists in Gilan-e Gharb, resorting to violence during the arrests.

Hengaw sources indicate that the Kermanshah IRGC intelligence forces carried out these arrests without presenting any judicial documents.

It has been learnt that these individuals were collaborators in the "Save Zagros" campaign, a signature-collecting initiative, and were actively involved in efforts to control and suppress recent forest fires in the region.

As of the time of this report, detailed information regarding the reasons for the arrests, the charges against them, and their current whereabouts remains unavailable. The families' attempts to obtain information have so far been unsuccessful.
