Kurdish man Saadoun Ghazali arrested to serve one-year prison sentence in Mahabad

Saadoun Ghazali, a Kurdish man from Mahabad, has been taken into custody to begin serving a one-year prison sentence and transferred to Mahabad Central Prison.

According to information obtained by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, Ghazali was recently summoned to the Sentence Enforcement Office of the Mahabad Revolutionary Court. After reporting to the office, he was taken into custody and transferred to Mahabad Central Prison to serve his sentence.

Ghazali was previously arrested by Intelligence Ministry forces at his family home on June 22, 2025, and transferred to the agency’s detention facility in Urmia for interrogation. He was temporarily released on September 3, 2025, after nearly three months in detention, upon posting bail of 3 billion tomans.

Ghazali was recently sentenced by Branch 1 of the Mahabad Revolutionary Court, presided over by Judge Siami, to one year in prison and an additional one-year suspended prison term on the charge of “assembly and collusion against national security.”
