Kurdish man Ali Asghar Ahmadpanah rearrested in Tehran after responding to court summons

Ali Asghar Ahmadpanah, a 19-year-old Kurdish man from Bijar who was previously detained during January 2026 protests, has been rearrested and transferred to Great Tehran Penitentiary.

According to information obtained by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, Ahmadpanah was arrested on June 27, 2026, after appearing before a branch of the Revolutionary Court in Tehran in response to a summons. He has since been held at Great Tehran Penitentiary. The reasons for his detention had not been disclosed at the time of publication.

Ahmadpanah suffers from a severe seizure disorder and requires daily medication. His family has expressed concern for his health because of his previous detention, during which he was denied access to medication, as well as reported shortcomings in medical care at Great Tehran Penitentiary.

Ahmadpanah was previously arrested on January 8, 2026, during protests in Tehran and was held for three months. He was subjected to severe physical and psychological torture while in security detention facilities before being released on temporary bail of 3 billion tomans.
