Hengaw : A Kurdish woman from Urmia, who was sentenced to 8 years in prison and has been detained in Urmia Central Prison for three years, has been released on parole.
According to a report received by Hengaw Human Rights Organization, Baran Behzad, a female Kurdish political prisoner from Urmia, was recently released on parole from Urmia Central Prison after serving half of her seven-year sentence.
Hengaw had previously reported that Baran Behzad was a member of the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) and had returned to Urmia about 3 years ago after splitting from the party.
She was arrested by Iranian IsapcnRevolutionary Guards intelligence forces and transferred to Urmia Central Prison two months later.
Baran Behzad was sentenced by the Second Branch of the Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Court in Urmia, headed by Judge Sheikhlou, to 8 years in prison in 2017 on charges of "membership in the Kurdistan Workers' Party", of which 7 years were applicable.
This female political prisoner has been detained in Urmia Central Prison for three years without the right to leave.
