Kurdish cleric sentenced to three years in prison

Henagw : A Kurdish cleric from Piranshahr, who was arrested by Iranian security forces in  fall 2020 and later released on bail, has been  sentenced to prison by the judiciary of the Islamic Republic of Iran.

According to a report received by Hengaw  Human Rights Organization, Rasoul Hamzehpour, the imam of Andizeh village in Piranshahr, was sentenced by the Special Clerical Court of Urmia to three years in prison, and has been  officially notified .

According to an informed source, the sentence was issued on charges of "propaganda against the regime and propaganda for national and religious issues and activities on social media ."

Rasoul Hamzehpour from the village of "Kharapa" and the imam of the village of "Andizeh" in the Lajan district of Piranshahr was arrested on Sunday October 4, 2020 by Iranian intelligence forces in Piranshahr and transferred to Urmia.

This Kurdish cleric was released on bail of one billion tomans ($40,000)  after a month of detention and was temporarily released from prison until the trial.
