Hengaw: Iranian Authorities at Rajai Shahr Prison in Karaj prevented a Kurdish political prisoner from attending the funeral of his recently deceased daughter.

According to a report received by Hengaw Human Rights Organization, in the past few days following the death of Kurdish prisoner Arash Nasri’s 15-year-old  daughter , who is being held in Rajai Shahr Prison in Karaj, prison officials, including Amin Vaziri, Deputy Prosecutor and Assistant Superintendent of Political Prisoners , have prevented him from attending to his daughter’s funeral .

According to an informed source, Amin Vaziri stated that the reason for opposing Arash Nasri's request for leave was "public insecurity and the security charge “, which also led to a public protest by prisoners in Ward 4 of Rajai Shahr Prison.

Arash Nasri, a 36-year-old Kurdish citizen of Sanandaj and a resident of Varamin, was arrested by Islamic Revolution  Corps intelligence branch on December 11, 2019. After being interrogated, he was transferred to Rajai Shahr Prison in Karaj, where he has been held ever since.

This political prisoner was sentenced on Saturday, August 15, 2020, by second Branch of the Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Court of Tehran, headed by Judge Moghis, to a total of six years in prison.  His trial was held on July 29, and the sentence was officially announced to him on August 28.

According to the verdict, Arash Nasri was sentenced to 7 years in prison on charges of  "membership in the Kurdistan Workers' Organization of Iran" , 6 years on charges of “carrying and keeping weapons “, 18 months on   charges of “illegally crossing the  country’s borders “ and 3 years and 6 months on  charges “ trading weapons “.

According to Article 6 of the Islamic Penal Code, the most severe sentence, ie a sentence of 2 years imprisonment, is applicable to this political prisoner.

It is worth mentioning that this political prisoner had previously resided in the Kurdistan region for 3 years and had been a member of the Iranian Kurdistan’s workers Organization for some time.
