Hengaw: Mohammad Houshangi, a political prisoner from Javanroud, who has been held in Urmia Central Prison for more than one year, has gone on a hunger strike.

According to a report received by the Hengaw Human Rights Organization, Mohammad Houshangi, a Kurdish activist from Javanroud, following his hunger strike in Urmia Central Prison was moved to solitary confinement by the prison security forces on Saturday, February 26.

Mohammad Houshangi on Tuesday, February 22, 2022, as a sign of protest against the Guards Corps' involvement in his case and the opposition of this security organization to his temporary release, despite paying a bail of two billion Tomans, has gone on a hunger strike after more than a year in prison of Central Urmia.

Hengaw was informed that Branch one of the Revolutionary Court of Mahabad had requested a bail of 2 billion Tomans for the temporary release of Mohammad Houshangi. After his family prepared the bail and did the administrative process, the court told them that the Guard Corps Intelligence rejected releasing Mohammad Houshangi in excuse of unfinished interrogation process.

Mohammad Houshangi was arrested by the Revolutionary Guards Intelligence forces in Tehran on Sunday, January 10, 2021, during the widespread detention of Kurdish citizens last year. He was transferred to the detention center of this security institution in Urmia, and he was moved to Urmia Central Prison after six months when the interrogation process finished.

Mohammad Houshangi, Farzad Samani, and Sakar Eini, two activists from Mahabad, in the same case have been accused of "Cooperation with one of the Kurdish opposition parties" by security agencies, and their case has been sent to Branch one of the Mahabad Revolutionary Court, headed by Judge Javad Gholami.
