Over the past few days, the food quota for prisoners in the women's ward of Urmia Central Prison has been reduced, so that more than 40 prisoners are deprived of meals due to a lack of food.

A well-informed source in Urmia prison told Hengaw: "During the past few days, the bread quota of the prisoners has been reduced to one loaf per person daily, and in addition, more than 40 prisoners have been deprived of meals due to the lack of food in the prison."

This source further stated that due to the lack of food in the prison, the prisoners are forced to buy from the prison store and the food items are sold to the prisoners at twice the price, which means that every prisoner has to spend more than 300 thousand tomans a day and most of the prisoners are not able to afford it.

It is worth mentioning that the right to food, especially for those who are kept in prison, is considered one of the most fundamental rights, the deprivation of which can seriously threaten a person's right to live.

While condemning the deliberate starvation of prisoners, the Hengaw Human Rights Organization considers this as clear proof of torture and demands the Urmia Prison Authorities and Urmia Prosecuting Attorney be held accountable for the prisoners' health.

It should be noted that at least 6 female Kurdish political prisoners, including So'da Khadirzadeh, who recently gave birth in prison, are kept in the women's ward of Urmia Central Prison.
