With the execution of another prisoner, Behzad Pourhanifi, the total number of those executed in Urmia Central Prison yesterday has been announced as two. The fate of the other three prisoners who were transported to solitary confinement is unknown.
According to the report received by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, on Friday, May 5, 2023, Behzad Pourhanifi, a Turkish prisoner of Azerbaijan, was executed in Urmia prison. This prisoner was previously arrested for drug-related charges and transferred to Urmia prison.
Hengaw previously announced the execution of Faramarz Shakhsi, a 29-year-old prisoner from Sardasht, in Urmia prison.
Faramarz, married and the father of two children, was arrested three years ago on drug-related charges and transferred to Urmia prison.
On Thursday, May 4th, together with Faramarz Shakhsi and Behzad Pourhanifi, three other Turkish Azerbaijani prisoners, one of whom was identified as Mehdi Teimouri, were transferred from the general ward of Urmia prison to solitary confinement, whose fate is unknown.
These three prisoners were previously arrested on drug-related charges and sentenced to prison by the judicial system of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
