Iraj Sofi-Mohammad Dehshams, a prisoner of conscience from Mahabad, has gone on a hunger strike in protest against his conditions in the central prison of the city.
 

According to a report received by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, on Sunday, May 7, 2023, Iraj Sofi-Mohammad Dehshams, a prisoner of conscience from Mahabad, started a hunger strike to protest his situation in the prison of Mahabad.
 

This prisoner, who was engaged in daily work and was held in a minimum security prison up until two days ago, has been transferred to the prison of Mahabad on the orders of the prosecutor on Friday, May 5, 2023, and today he has resorted to a hunger strike in protest against his relocation.
 

Iraj Sofi-Mohammad Dehshams was sentenced to 10 years in prison by the Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Court in Mahabad three years ago on charges of "membership in extremist religious groups." After serving two and a half years of his ten-year sentence, he was released on parole.
