Majid Kazemi, Saeed Yaqoubi, and Saleh Mirhashmi were put to death in Isfahan Central Prison on the morning of Friday, May 19, 2023, according to the report that the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights received. The judiciary's media source has published a statement officially confirming the news of these three prisoners' execution.
The Hengaw Organization for Human Rights calls for special attention from international human rights organizations and Western governments to the unimaginable wave of executions in Iran while strongly condemning the execution of these three individuals who lacked the minimal defense rights of an accused. The international community should stop Iran's killings using all legal mean.
While the Supreme Court rejected the appeal of the defendants in the Khane Isfahan case, Majid Kazemi, Saeed Yaqoubi, and Saleh Mirhashmi, and upheld the Moharebeh verdict, there were serious flaws and shortcomings in this case, including the use of forced confessions as evidence of the crime.
On May 18, 2023, a Thursday, three days after the Supreme Court had authorized the death penalty for these three prisoners, the video of their coerced confessions was released by the government.
Notably, there were no additional particular records regarding the proof of a crime in the instances of Majid Kazemi, Saeed Yaqoubi, and Saleh Mirhashmi before the execution of their death sentences, except for their coerced confessions.
Majid Kazemi, Saeed Yaqoubi, and Saleh Mirhashmi have been arrested for the protests on November 16 last year in the Khaneh neighborhood of Isfahan. On this day, three Basij members named Mohsen Chiraghi, Mohsen Hamidi, and Mohammad Karimi were killed.
