Shaker Bouri, a satirist and social media activist from Abadan known for his critical content, has been sentenced to 13 months and 20 days in prison following a complaint filed by Iranian lawmaker Mousa Ghazanfarabadi.

According to information obtained by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights and a video Bouri posted on his Instagram account, a court sentenced him to 13 months and 20 days in prison on the charge of “disturbing public opinion through the publication of false information.”

The case was initiated following a complaint filed by Ghazanfarabadi, a member of Iran’s parliament, with the Public and Revolutionary Prosecutor’s Office in Bam, Kerman province.

Bouri had previously criticized the decision to pursue the case in Bam, questioning why proceedings were initiated outside his place of residence in Abadan despite the public nature of his activities. He said the arrangement had imposed significant travel costs and additional judicial pressure on him.

Bouri was previously arrested on July 31, 2023, after reporting to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Intelligence office in Abadan to inquire about and retrieve his confiscated mobile phone. He was taken into custody by IRGC Intelligence forces.
