Babak Moradifar sentenced to 30 months in prison

Babak Moradifar, a Lor political activist from Khorramabad residing in Tehran, has been sentenced to 30 months in prison by Branch 28 of the Tehran Revolutionary Court, presided over by Judge Amouzad.

According to information received by Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, Moradifar, who has previously been arrested, was sentenced to 30 months in prison on the charge of “assembly and collusion with the intent to disrupt domestic security through propaganda activities against the Islamic Republic.”

Security agencies cited his attendance at a ceremony in Mashhad marking the seventh day after the death of Khosrow Alikurdi, as well as his declared support for the widespread January 2026 protests, as key grounds in his case.

Moradifar was arrested by Ministry of Intelligence forces at his home in Tehran on January 9, 2026. He was subjected to enforced disappearance for 10 days, during which no information about his whereabouts or condition was available. After approximately 40 days in detention at Evin Prison, he was transferred to the Revolutionary Prosecutor’s Office and subsequently to Greater Tehran Prison.

During interrogation in the security wards of Evin Prison, Moradifar sustained an injury to a tendon in his right leg. Despite direct recommendations from doctors, prison authorities denied him medical care and refused to provide a splint or cast. After approximately two months in detention, he was temporarily released on bail to pursue medical treatment.
