In Shushter, the life of a 9-year-old child named Morteza Dalfzargani was tragically taken by government forces who opened fire directly on a vehicle. Interestingly, the commander of the Shushter Police Department has justified the actions of his personnel as "lawful," and as of now, no investigations have been initiated regarding the individuals responsible for the shooting.
According to a report received by the Hengaw organization for Human Rights, at 5 p.m. on Friday, June 9, 2023, a passenger car traveling from Shushter to Ahvaz came under fire by Police forces from Shushter county on suspicions of theft. Regrettably, this incident resulted in the tragic death of Morteza Dalfzargani, a 9-year-old child who was a passenger in the vehicle.
Jafar Dalfzargani, the grieving father of the deceased child, has expressed that the car belonged to one of his customers, and in his capacity as a mechanic, he was in the process of returning it after completing the necessary repairs. At the meantime the owner reported the vehicle stolen to the police.
He emphasized, "The police car abruptly blocked our vehicle without issuing any warnings, signals, or sounding sirens, and a bullet struck our 9-year-old child, instantly claiming his life."
Nevertheless, Rouhollah Bigdeli, the commander of the Shushter police department, has asserted that the driver of the vehicle was engaged in an "attempted theft" of the car, further explaining that "the police officers in Shushter, having exhausted all legal measures, brought the vehicle to a halt through the use of gunfire."
He firmly stated that none of the officers involved in the incident will be subject to detainment and declared the actions of the law enforcement personnel in Shushter as being in accordance with the law.
