Houshmand Alipour, a Kurdish political prisoner from Sardasht who is serving his 8-year sentence in Sanandaj Central Prison, has started a hunger strike to protest the Iranian security institutions’ disagreement on his conditional release even though he has served 5 years of his 8-year imprisonment sentence. 
 

According to the report received by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, since Saturday, June 24, 2023, Houshmand Alipour, a Kurdish political prisoner from Sardasht, has been on a hunger strike in Sanandaj Central Prison.
 

According to informed sources, this protesting political prisoner has announced that he will continue his hunger strike in this prison until he is released from Sanandaj Central Prison.
 

Houshmand Alipour had previously gone on a hunger strike on Tuesday, November 16, 2023, as a sign of protest against the opposition of the Iranian intelligence to his leave request to participate in the funeral ceremony of his brother who was killed by direct fire from the Iranian armed forces.
 

Houshmand Alipour was arrested on Friday, August 3, 2018, along with Mohammad Ustad Qadir from Saqqez by the Iranian government forces in Saqqez after interrogations he was transferred to Saqqez Central Prison and in January of the same year to Sanandaj Central Prison.
 

The court session of these two citizens was held on October 31, 2019, by the 1st branch of the Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Court in Sanandaj, headed by Judge Saeedi. 
Houshmand Alipour was sentenced to death on the charge of "treason" through membership in the Kurdistan Freedom Party (Pak). This sentence was officially notified to their lawyer on December 29, 2019. Also, Mohammad Ostad Qadir was sentenced to 5 years in prison.
 

Houshmand Alipour's death sentence was later overturned by the Iranian Supreme Court and referred to the equivalent branch. The court session of this political prisoner was held on Sunday, September 20, 2020, in the second branch of the Iranian Islamic  Revolutionary Court in Sanandaj, and he was sentenced to 8 years in prison. This sentence was officially communicated to him on Saturday, September 26, 2020.
 

It should be mentioned that since his arrest, Houshmand Alipour has been imprisoned in Saqqez and Sanandaj prisons without a single day of leave for the past five years.
