Hadi Ateshbar, a political activist from Mashhad who was arrested by the Iranian authorities, was sentenced to five years and six months in prison by the judiciary of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
 
According to a report received by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, Hadi Ateshbar, a former political prisoner, was recently sentenced to three years in prison on the charge of "threatening national security" by the 7th branch of the Revolutionary Court of Mashhad, headed by Judge Yazdankhah. Also during the same procedure, he was sentenced to one year and eight months in prison on the charge of "insulting Khamenei" and ten months in prison on the charge of "propaganda activity against the regime".
 
According to the Consolidation of Sentences Law, the harshest sentence, which is three years of imprisonment, would be applicable for this former political prisoner.
 
On February 14, 2023, Hadi Atashbar was arrested by government authorities at his residence in Mashhad and transferred to Vakil Abad prison.
 
In the past, this 44-year-old former political prisoner has been arrested by the judiciary of the Islamic Republic of Iran due to his political activities.
