Mahabad: Five Kurdish citizens arrested during the Woman, Life, and Freedom Movement were sentenced to a total of 50 years and 6 months in prison

Yasin Mustafapour, Salah Mousavi Rad, Iraj Ebrahimzadeh, and Behnam Rasekhnia, four Kurdish citizens from Mahabad, along with Rahim Shamee, a Kurdish citizen residing in Urmia, have been sentenced to a total of 50 years and 6 months in prison, including 74 lashes, by the Iranian Judiciary. These citizens were arrested in connection with the Woman, Life, Freedom movement’s protests.

 

According to the report received by the Hengaw Organisation for Human Rights, recently, 26-year-old Rahim Shamee, a resident of Urmia, received a custodial sentence of five years in prison by Branch 101 of the Criminal Court in Mahabad, headed by Sajad Dehghanzadeh, on the charges of "outcry and wasting properties" and a one-and-a-half-year prison sentence for "vandalising properties. Furthermore, he was sentenced to five years in prison on the charge of "manufacturing explosive materials," as well as two years for "disobedience to law enforcement officers" and one additional year for "disturbing public order. In total, the cumulative sentence amounts to 14 years and six months. Moreover, he has been ordered to pay a fine equal to double the value of the damaged property as well as 74 lashes.
 

Additionally, Yasin Mustafapour, a 25-year-old Kurdish citizen, has been sentenced to a total of nine years and six months in prison by the Iranian court. He received a five-year sentence for the charges of "outcry and wasting properties," a one-and-a-half-year sentence for "vandalising properties," a two-year sentence for "disobeying the officers," and a one-year sentence for "disturbing the public order."
 

Two other citizens from Mahabad, Salah Mousavi Rad, 28 years old, and Iraj Ebrahimzadeh, 24 years old, have each received a prison sentence of 42 months for the charges of "outcry and wasting properties. Additionally, they were both sentenced to one year and six months for the charge of "destroying public properties. Consequently, each individual has been sentenced to a total of five years of custodial imprisonment.


Behnam Rasekhnia, 45, has similarly been subjected to a five-year prison sentence by Branch 101 of the Criminal Court in Mahabad. This verdict encompasses charges of "outcry and wasting properties. Furthermore, on the charge of "participating in destroying the properties," he has received a one-year and six-month prison term. Additionally, for the charge of "burning personal documents," he has been sentenced to ten years of imprisonment. Consequently, his overall sentence amounts to 16 years and six months of custodial imprisonment.
 

According to the Consolidation of Sentences Law, the harshest punishment for Rahim Shamee and Yasin Mustafapour, each equal to 5 years of imprisonment, for Salah Mousavi Rad and Iraj Ebrahimzadeh, each equal to 42 months of imprisonment, and for Behnam Rasekhnia, equal to ten years of imprisonment, will be applicable.
