Saleh Nikbakht, a renowned jurist and lawyer who represented Jina Amini's case, has received a one-year prison sentence from the judicial system of the Islamic Republic of Iran.

According to a report received by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, lawyer Saleh Nikbakht was sentenced to one year imprisonment by Judge Amouzad at Branch 28 of Tehran Revolutionary Court. He was charged with "propaganda activity against the Islamic Republic of Iran" and additionally banned from using social media for two years.

This verdict was officially delivered to Ali Rezaei, the defense lawyer for Saleh Nikbakht, on Tuesday, October 17, 2023, following his appearance at Branch 28 of the Tehran Revolutionary Court. The hearings on the charges against Mr. Nikbakht took place on August 29 and October 2nd of this year in the same court.

In a public statement, Ali Rezaei expressed concerns about the judicial system's disregard for the defense of both the lawyer and the accused. He mentioned that the court considered all reports from the intelligence department regarding Nikbakht's professional activities and official duties as a lawyer. This included an interview with the Etemad newspaper about the case of Jina Amini and the defense of the rights of Kolbars, who face direct fire from the forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran.

Saleh Nikbakht, a 72-year-old from Saqqez, was charged with "propaganda against the regime" by the 2nd investigation branch of the Evin Prosecutor's Office on Saturday, March 10, 2022. He was subsequently released on bail.

Throughout his career, Saleh Nikbakht has represented numerous prisoners and individuals accused in political cases, often facing the death penalty.

It's important to note that Mr. Nikbakht had previously spent a total of 8 years in prison during both the imperial government and the Islamic Republic of Iran due to his political activities.
