Hossein Ronaghi sentenced to six years in prison

Hengaw – Wednesday, July 23, 2025
Hossein Ronaghi, a political activist and former political prisoner, has been sentenced to six years in prison by the judiciary of the Islamic Republic of Iran. The charges are linked to his alleged involvement in the "Women, Life, Freedom" (Jin, Jiyan, Azadi) movement.
According to information received by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, Ronaghi, a 40-year-old Turkish man, was tried at Branch 15 of the Tehran Revolutionary Court, presided over by Judge Abolghasem Salavati. He received five years in prison for “collusion and assembly against national security”, and one year for “propaganda against the state.”
Under Iran’s sentence consolidation laws, only the most severe sentence—the five-year term—will be implemented.
In addition to imprisonment, Ronaghi has been sentenced to flogging, a monetary fine, a ban on international travel, and a prohibition on online activity for other charges related to the same case.
He was arrested 29 days ago by Iran’s Ministry of Intelligence in Tehran, and his whereabouts and condition remain unknown. Ronaghi was detained in connection with content he published following the twelve-day war between Iran and Israel.
On the evening of Tuesday, June 24, 2025, Hossein Ronaghi and his brother, Hassan Ronaghi, were arrested by intelligence agents in Tehran and transferred to an undisclosed detention facility operated by the Ministry of Intelligence.
