Ali Akbar Zaz, a citizen who has been held in custody for four months, has been accused by the Judiciary of the Islamic Republic of "insulting the Prophet" and "waging war against God." He has been threatened with the death penalty.

According to a report obtained by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, Ali Akbar Zaz, a 39-year-old resident of Tehran, is currently facing charges brought forth by Branch 6 of the public prosecutor's office in District 33 of Tehran. These charges include "Sāb Al-Nabi," which refers to insulting the Prophet,(Mohārebeh) "waging war against god", "corruption on earth," "association and collusion against national security," "blasphemy against Khamenei," the leader of the Islamic Republic of Iran, and "propaganda against the Islamic Republic of Iran."

According to Iran's Islamic penal rules, indictments such as Sāb Al-Nabi or Mohārebeh can result in the death penalty.

Zaz, who is the father of two children, has informed his family during a phone call that he has been subjected to severe duress, including psychological and physical torture, for confessing to yhe crime and making false claims.

Following the initial investigation into his allegations, which was about posting critical comments on online forums, Ali Akbar Zaz has been held at Tehran Evin Prison.

He was arrested at his residence by police security forces on Friday, June 16, 2023. To date, there has been no resolution regarding the possibility of temporary release or reductions in his charges.
