Disabled Arab man Hossein Ghavi dies under torture after arrest in Ahvaz
Hengaw – Saturday, April 4, 2026
Iranian authorities arrested Hossein Ghavi (Silavi), a 28-year-old Arab man with a leg disability from Ahvaz, who later died under torture while in detention during the recent war between Iran, the United States, and Israel.
According to information received by Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, Ghavi, a resident of the Zargan area in northern Ahvaz, was arrested by Intelligence forces of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) at his workplace, a small tea stall, and later died as a result of severe torture while in detention.
Karun News, which reports on human rights issues concerning Arabs in the region, reported that his arrest took place during the recent military tensions between Iran, the United States, and Israel. Security institutions had accused him of “filming bombed areas” and “communicating with foreign countries.”
Ghavi had a leg disability and was the sole provider for his family, earning a living by running a small tea stall.
