Kaveh Karimian, a prominent Kurdish environmental activist and member of the "Green Chia" association in Marivan, has been sentenced to two years of suspended imprisonment by the judicial system of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
According to a report received by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights on Saturday, December 9, 2023, Kaveh Karimian faced charges, including "propaganda against the Islamic Republic of Iran" and "collaboration with Kurdistan political parties," resulting in a two-year suspended prison sentence from the court in Marivan.
The environmental activist was arrested on Sunday, September 10, 2023, by the intelligence forces of the IRGC. Finally, on Saturday, October 14 of the same year, he was temporarily released from prison after posting bail pending the conclusion of legal proceedings.
Notably, during the annual meeting of the Green Chia Environmental Association in Marivan, Kaveh Karimian and more than 34 other members were arrested by security forces, leading to the opening of a court case for some of them.
