Three political prisoners, Forough Taghipour (29 years old), Marzieh Farsi (58 years old), and Nasim Gholamifard, currently detained in Evin prison, face severe charges of "treason" in Evin's courthouse.
According to a report received by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, on Saturday, December 9, 2023, the Evin Prosecutor's Office charged these three women with collaborating with the People's Mojahedin Organization of Iran.
Having spent the last five months in detention, these accusations pose a significant threat to their lives, potentially resulting in harsh sentences such as the death penalty or even extreme measures like amputation.
Notably, Nasim Gholamifard had previously initiated a hunger strike protesting her situation in Evin prison, which concluded after two weeks with promises from prison authorities to address her case promptly. Meanwhile, Marzieh Farsi, already grappling with cancer, faces alarming health concerns.
Forough Taghipour, Marzieh Farsi, and Nasim Gholamifard were arrested by the security forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran in June and July of this year in Tehran and subsequently transferred to Evin prison.
It is crucial to highlight that Forough Taghipour was initially arrested in March 2020, and Marzieh Farsi, a mother of two, was arrested in February of the same year. Both were sentenced to five years in prison and were released in March 2023 while serving their sentences.
Forough Taghipour, the daughter of Rahim Taghipour, is a prisoner from the 1980s, while Marzieh Farsi's brother, Hassan Farsi, was executed in the summer of 1989.
