Detention of 44 Kurdish citizens in August 2021

Hengaw: At least two Kurdish citizens have been arrested by the security forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran in the past month on charges of political, civil, and religious activities.

According to statistics recorded by the Statistics and Documentation Center of Hengaw Human Rights Organization, during August 2021, at least 44 Kurdish citizens were arrested by the security services of the Iranian government on charges of political, civil, and religious activities.

According to the report, 37 citizens were detained by security forces on charges of political activity and cooperation with Kurdish parties, and seven on charges of civil activity.

Most of the detained citizens were registered in the province of West Azerbaijan (Urmia) with 26 cases. Also, in the provinces of Kurdistan (Sanandaj) 13 cases, 4 cases of Kermanshah and Ilam has1 case of detention of Kurdish citizens have been registered.

Five female activists, three teenagers under the age of 18 and a lawyer were arrested last month. Four citizens were also arrested and transferred to prison to serve their sentences.
