Milad Bakhtiari, a detainee of the December protests currently held in Ghezel Hesar Prison in Karaj, has been sentenced to a total of 20 months’ imprisonment by the Iranian judiciary.

According to information received by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, the 29-year-old Karaj resident, who is being held in Hall 2 of Ghezel Hesar Prison, was recently convicted by Branch 2 of the Karaj Revolutionary Court. He was sentenced on charges of “propaganda against the state” and “assembly and collusion against national security.”

A source close to Bakhtiari’s family stated that he has formally appealed the verdict, and the case is currently under judicial review.

Bakhtiari was arrested on January 9, 2026, during protests in Karaj and was transferred to Ghezel Hesar Prison two days later, on January 11.

He is the son of Houriyeh Farajzadeh Tarani, a political activist, and the nephew of Shahram Farajzadeh, who was killed during the 2009 Ashura protests following Iran’s disputed presidential election.
