Kurdish siblings, Srveh and Peyman Shiri arrested to serve prison sentence

Srveh Shiri and Peyman Shiri, young siblings from Bukan, have been arrested to serve their prison sentences and transferred to Urmia Central Prison and Bukan Central Prison, respectively.

According to reports received by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, the siblings were arrested on Monday, January 6, 2025. Srveh Shiri, aged 22, was taken to Urmia Central Prison, while her 19-year-old brother, Peyman Shiri, was sent to Bukan Central Prison.

The two were convicted by Branch 101 of the Bukan Criminal Court Two on charges of “propaganda activities against the state in favor of the Democratic Party of Iranian Kurdistan.” Srveh received an eight-month sentence, and Peyman was sentenced to six months in prison.

Srveh and Peyman Shiri, along with their cousin, Fardin Shiri, were initially arrested on Wednesday, September 25, 2024, by the Intelligence Office without arrest warrants. During their detention, the siblings were held at an intelligence detention facility and later released temporarily on bail, pending the completion of judicial proceedings.

While in custody, Srveh and Peyman Shiri were reportedly deprived of access to legal representation and contact with their family.
