Imminent risk of execution for Kurdish brothers Hamid and Meysam Koushki from Kuhdasht; elder brother already executed

Hengaw – Sunday, July 6, 2025
Hamid Koushki, 27, and Meysam Koushki, 25 — two Kurdish brothers from Tarhan district of Kuhdasht, Lorestan province — face imminent execution after being sentenced to death for killing a Basij member. Their older brother, Farman Koushki, was executed on May 25, 2025, at Ghezel Hesar Prison in connection with the same case.
According to information received by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, the brothers are currently held at Ghezel Hesar Prison in Karaj. A source close to the family confirmed that Hamid’s execution is scheduled for July 20, 2025, with Meysam’s execution set to follow immediately afterward.
The source emphasized that the brothers have been denied access to independent legal counsel and subjected to opaque legal proceedings. These restrictions have severely hindered their family’s ability to mount an effective defense or obtain reliable information about their case.
The three brothers were arrested in 2020 on charges of killing a Basij member. Under intense security pressure and torture, they were forced to confess and were ultimately sentenced to death in an unfair trial.
Farman Koushki accepted full responsibility for the killing under torture and based on false promises that his confession would secure the release of his brothers. Despite this, he was executed at dawn on May 25, 2025. At the time of his transfer to solitary confinement, the authorities falsely informed Hamid and Meysam that Farman was being taken to a hospital, withholding news of his impending execution.
Following Farman’s execution, on June 7 and 8, 2025, the Koushki family, joined by residents of Tarhan, held large protests in front of the Attorney General’s Office in Tehran. Carrying placards and chanting slogans against the death penalty, they demanded an immediate halt to the planned executions of Hamid and Meysam.
The Hengaw Organization for Human Rights expresses deep concern over the imminent risk of execution for Hamid and Meysam Koushki and urgently calls on international human rights organizations, prisoner rights groups, and the global community to take immediate action to stop these executions and ensure the brothers’ right to a fair trial and legal defense is protected.
