Kamal Hashemi was sentenced to 16 months in prison by the Revolutionary Court  in Piranshahr during a hearing held in absentia when he was serving the second month of his arrest on charges of "propaganda against the regime and collusion against national security."

According to a report obtained by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, Kamal Hashemi was informed in the past few days in Naghadeh Central Prison of the Revolutionary Court's decision to sentence him to 16 months in prison.

This 40-year-old citizen who is married and has two kids was imprisoned without access to legal counsel.

He was sent to the government institutions' detention facility in Urmia on Monday, October 10, 2022, following his arrest in Piranshahr.

After being held and questioned for some time, Kamal Hashemi was moved from Urmia to the prison in Naghadeh, where he is still being held.
