Shahriar Adeli, who was detained in Sardash after joining a crowd of individuals celebrating the Iranian national football team's defeat over the United States, died as a result of severe physical torture in the intelligence detention center of this city.

The 25-year-old Shahriar Adeli was released on December 3, 2022, after being tortured in the detention facility in Sardasht, according to the report that the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights received. He died at home a few days after being released because of his wounds on Thursday, December 8, 2022.

An informed source says that Shahriar Adeli attended the celebrations after the Iranian national team's defeat in Sardasht early on Wednesday, November 30, 2022. He was then arrested by IRGC intelligence forces inside his car.

Hengaw has been informed that Shahriar Adeli was released on bail after three days on December 3, while he was severely tortured in the intelligence detention center of the IRGC in Sardasht city.

A relative of Adeli's family told Hengaw: "Shahriar Adeli sustained an internal hemorrhage as a result of extreme torture, and after being hospitalized for a few days at Sardasht, he was sent back to his parent's house, where he eventually passed away on Thursday night as a result of the severity of his wounds."

This source further said that the government institutions forced Adeli's family to state the cause of their son's death as cardiac arrest. His funeral was held on Friday amid strict security measures.

According to the report received by Hengaw, government institutions have threatened the family of this man, saying that they should not disclose the news of their son's death to the media and that they do not have the right to interview with any media.
