The first branch of the Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Court in Sanandaj held a hearing session on the charges against Nazanin Zahra Sarvi, a Ph.D. student in architecture at the University of Kurdistan and one of the recent detainees who was accused of "collusion against national security."

According to the report received by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, this citizen appeared in the session of the first branch of the Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Court in Sanandaj on Sunday, December 18, without permission to present a defense while facing the accusation of collusion against national security.

According to what Hengaw has obtained, this charge against Nazanin Zahra Sarvi was made by the Iranian government institutions based on the forced confession of another recently detained person.

Also, on the day of the hearing, the monetary value of this citizen's bail was increased to 500 million (12,500 USD) and 3 billion tomans (75,000 USD), respectively, by the investigator and the court judge.

Informed sources from Sanandaj reported the deterioration of Nazanin Zahra Sarvi's mother's health during her detention period.

These sources added that Nazanin Zahra Sarvi's mother’s diabetes has worsened due to her refusal to take medicine, and now she needs surgery on both eyes.

Nazanin Zahra Sarvi was arrested by the Iranian government forces on Friday, November 4, 2022, and was finally released on November 16 after posting bail.

A conviction based on an out-of-court confession of any type, including one obtained under torture or pressure, has no legal significance and cannot be used to determine the truth. Accordingly, a serious security-related charge against this citizen is unjustified.
